PortSide Receives "Family Business of the Year" and "Builders Edge" Awards (May 15, 2006)
"Our values are how we interact with our people, our customers and the various
communities where we live and work.' This statement in the company charter lays a good foundation for why PortSide recently received recognition from two separate organizations, the BuildersEdge Awards and the Wisconsin Family Business of the Year Awards. Both complimented and recognized PortSide for supporting the communities which we serve through active participation and involvement.
In the nomination papers submitted to each organization, Operations Manager Larry Shefchik stated, “We especially feel that it is essential to not only support [local] organizations financially but also with our time and talent as well. We know from our involvement that these organizations provide very important services to the communities.”
Some of the specific community involvement considered by the judges, included:
continued involvement and key leadership positions with local Home Builders Associations; support and leadership involvement in Economic Development Corporations; involvement with local Chamber of Commerces; monetary and employee involvement with the YMCA; support in building community-based
structures; and showing a commitment to their employees. 'I can not say enough about how happy I am that you (PortSide) are a 2006 BuildersEdge awardee. You have a great story to tell, which will encourage others in this and other industries."
Joe Simon Chairman of the Builders Edge
